2015/4/25I would shim the bearing halves and clamp them together, then stand them up vertically over a mandrel and pour in the Babbitt. Then mount them back in the hangers without the shims. As was said before soot up the mandrel with an acetylene flame and make sure everything is well above the boiling point of water before pouring the Babbitt.

Babbitt bearings are the polar opposite of insert bearings. The bearing material is cast in place on the engine block and connecting rods, then machined to final finished diameter. It is not incredibly complicated, but there are a few specialty tools required outside of the molds themselves, which simply don't make sense to own unless you are pouring Model A bearings on a regular basis.
